ZenDA - ZenDA – establishment of an interdisciplinary research and education institute DESIGN FOR ALL at the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt
Design for All as a principle in planning and design has been gaining increasing attention in the past years, especially in the European Union. It is nowadays undisputed that equal participation in society is part of every citizen’s civil rights. The demographic change and the related growing number of elderly people draw attention to the necessity of accessible and usable public spaces. These aspects must be considered in order to still guarantee this large segment of population access to public life.
Against this background, the goal is to establish an interdisciplinary competence centre in the form of a research and education institute DESIGN FOR ALL at the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt. The centre’s tasks shall be:
- increasing the steadiness of research activity in the field of Design for All
- the institutionalisation of topic-related educational opportunities for practice partners
- the development of a specialized network concerning Design for All within the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt and Thuringian partner universities
- the prescription of subject matters of Design for All in relevant courses’ syllabi
The research project shall prepare the necessary referendums, develop strategies and possible finance schemes for a research and education centre DESIGN FOR ALL.
